Our Story & Products
Like many other food businesses, Legally Addictive was launched in a kitchen in a tiny apartment late at night. After being asked by a friend to be the food vendor at a large holiday event (and selling out in a few hours), it was apparent there was demand and the late night idea became a business. A year of recipe development, catering for a creative agency and learning about the food business followed. Finally, the product landed on the shelves of a few number of stores in New York City, often being delivered by the founder herself on the subway. In summer of 2015, it became the #1 selling item in the Best of New York Assortment at Dylan’s Candy Bar, where it is currently carried in all three NYC locations. From its sold-out debut at Etsy’s Holiday Cavalcade, to being one of the first businesses to take part in the launch of Brooklyn Foodworks in Winter 2016 (Brooklyn’s first and only culinary incubator), Legally Addictive Foods has expanded by bringing uniquely tasty and consistent handmade products to their loyal fans in New York, California, Texas, Minnesota, Maryland, South Carolina and Pennsylvania retailers and to the rest of the country online.
Summer 2016 Update: Legally Addictive Foods was featured on Good Morning America as one of the new and innovative brands at the Summer Fancy Food Show. We have had incredible feedback from this! You can watch it here!
Fall 2016 Update: We are working on not one but two new varieties of the Crack Cookie and will be making an announcement as soon. Also, we are working on bringing you fresh and bold new packaging!
Winter 2017 – We are now in 20 retail locations and growing by the week! Hungry Marketing also did a profile of us which you can read here!
Laura Shafferman is the founder of Legally Addictive Foods. She spent a dozen years in marketing and sales of NYC residential real estate, lived in Latin America for four years post-college where she ran her first small business and is an animal rescue advocate. She is also fully involved in the Brooklyn food community and a great group of other female entrepreneurs. She has two tiny senior dogs: one long haired chihuahua (12 years) and a scruffy Jack Russell mix (16 years).
